What to Expect

Visiting First Baptist Church for youth programming is a chance for students to connect, grow, and feel at home. They can expect a friendly, relaxed environment where leaders genuinely care and peers are excited to welcome new faces. Each gathering centers on Jesus: who He is, how He loves us, and what it means to follow Him. Students will experience engaging Bible teaching, meaningful discussions, fun activities, and opportunities to build strong friendships. Whether a student is outgoing or shy, brand new or returning, they’ll find a place where they are valued, encouraged, and supported as they grow in their faith, learn about Jesus, and navigate life with Him at the center.

JAM Time

JAM (Jesus and Me) is a special time just for kids ages 4 years through 2nd grade to learn more about Jesus in a fun, engaging way. Each week, children experience Bible lessons, music, and hands-on activities that help them understand God’s love and grow in their faith.

JAM Time is designed to be joyful, age appropriate, and welcoming; where kids can ask questions, build friendships, and discover that Jesus cares deeply about them.

REAL Kidz/REAL Students

REAL Kidz and REAL Students is our mid‑week program designed to help children and teens grow in their faith, build friendships, and feel at home in a caring community. We meet every Wednesday from 6:00–7:30 PM and welcome all kids from Pre‑K through 12th grade.

REAL Kidz (Pre‑K–5th grade) and REAL Students (6th–12th grade) enjoy a meaningful Bible lesson, games every week, and a fun store where they can redeem points they’ve earned. We also provide allergen‑friendly snacks so everyone can participate safely.

Parents can register ahead of time or simply show up, we’ll gather the needed information when you arrive. If a child feels nervous, parents are welcome to stay with them until they feel comfortable. Our goal is to create a real community where families feel supported and students feel seen, valued, and encouraged.

Vacation Bible School

Every summer, we host a fun filled week of Vacation Bible School where kids come together to learn God’s Word, make new friends, and enjoy hands‑on activities in a safe, welcoming environment. Each evening is packed with engaging experiences designed to help children grow in their faith while having an unforgettable time.

Each night includes:

  • Bible Lesson | Age appropriate teaching that helps kids understand God’s love and truth.

  • Crafts | Creative projects that connect with the lesson.

  • Games & Recreation | High‑energy fun that keeps everyone moving.

  • Music | Upbeat songs that help kids remember what they’ve learned.

  • Snack Every Day | A refreshing break with treats kids love.

  • Plenty of Fun & Prizes | Surprises, rewards, and excitement all week long.

VBS is one of our favorite weeks of the year, and we love welcoming families from our church and community. It’s a joyful, Christ‑centered experience your kids will look forward to every summer.

Annual Events

Each year, our students have two incredible opportunities to grow spiritually and build lasting relationships. Each summer, our teens head to camp, a week that consistently becomes one of the most impactful moments in a student’s walk with Christ. Camp provides space away from distractions, intentional gospel teaching, powerful worship, and meaningful friendships. Time and time again, we see students deepen their faith, make life‑changing decisions, and experience God’s work in a real and personal way. As a church family, camp allows us to invest directly into the next generation and create space for God to move.

Each November, our teens also have the chance to attend REVERB, an all‑night evangelistic event designed for students in 6th grade and above. This year, First Baptist Church is heading back on November 6–7, 2026. The night begins with a Kalamazoo Wings hockey game and continues with arcade games, bowling, laser tag, sports, food, prizes, and more. At the heart of REVERB is a clear presentation of the Gospel and an opportunity for students to respond. It’s an ideal event for teens who may not attend church regularly but would gladly join a night packed with fun. Scholarships are available for invited students who may not yet know the Lord. We never want cost to keep someone from hearing the Gospel.

Our youth programming at First Baptist Church includes a variety of opportunities for children and teens to learn, grow, and connect. This includes Sunday Groups, JAM Time, REAL Kidz and REAL Students, along with our special events, seasonal gatherings, and summer programs like VBS. Together, these offerings create a welcoming environment where families can build relationships, students can deepen their faith, and everyone can experience real community.
